Getting Ready for “Kleidertauschparty”: Exploring Second-Hand Shops

We have already been thrifting our clothes in Italy & Egypt for years, and because of the event “Kleidertauschparty” at Club International, we decided to explore second-hand stores in Stuttgart, and look for interesting pieces!

Check out those two promotional Videos that we posted on Instagram from our visit to Stana Second Hand Boutique – Stuttgart!

Interview with Andrea Neuberger

On our tour, it was a pleasure to meet Andrea Neuberger, owner of the “Second Dreams” store in Tübinger Street. Check this video to get to know about her store, and her perspective on thrift shopping!

*Please tell us more about the store?
The store is called Second Dreams & it was founded since 1994 only for second-hand clothes. -Andrea also mentioned that she has rescued during those 30 years a lot of clothes-trucks, before they get transportated to India, to get incinerated-

*Where do you get the clothes from?
We make appointments with private individuals. They call us. We make an appointment. They bring the items here. And then we value them, and note how much the customers get for it, and then we balance accounts when the items are sold.

Kleider-tausch-Party at Club International on the 19th of November 2023!

Kleidertauschparty started with an insightful presentation on the environmental impacts of fast fashion, followed by a lovely Sachet workshop by Tutti.

The presentation showed that fast fashion, with its emphasis on rapid production, is linked to various environmental issues, from excessive resource consumption to pollution.

Tutti asked what Actions we could do as individuals to reduce these harms, and the answers were various; Sustainable alternatives could be:

  • Thrift shopping
Explore thrift shops or second-hand stores in your neighbourhood, you’re sure to discover some gems! Whether they’re fancy or budget-friendly, we invite you to go on a free day, and take your time until you find pieces that suit you best.Thrift shopping may not be as straightforward as normal shopping, but it’s incredibly enjoyable and you will always be surprised!
  • Swapping clothes with friends & acquaintances
Similar to our Kleideraustauschparty concept, this involves exchanging items you no longer wear with others. It’s a motivating way to declutter your wardrobe and discover new pieces.
  • Repairing your clothes
Do you have a neglected piece in your wardrobe that needs fixing? Probably yes! This is your sign to take action!
  • Upcycling
What is special about Upcycling, that it’s both simple & creative for transforming unused clothes into something new and exciting. Check out this video HERE that shows the entire process of upcycling fabrics to create a Sachet. A workshop facilitated by Tutti Maria Diaz during our Kleideraustauschparty.

Thank you Tutti for facilitating such an enjoyable workshop. We would also like to thank our partner Club International for hosting the entire event. It was so much fun, and we look forward to the possibility of future collaborations!

& Big THANK YOU to everyone who joined us. It’s always amazing to have you! Please visit our Instagram page to stay updated on upcoming events, and who knows, maybe another Kleidertauschparty is on the horizon?

Yours,
Dai & Sebastiano
